Tausug Young Intellectuals Marching Toward New Renaissance

Tausug is a slang word and originated from two root words: tau (people) and ma-isug (brave). (Prof. Muhammad Nasser Matli, University of the Philippines)

The phrase "Tausug bravest man in earth" is indoctrinated in the mindset of every Tausug and it boosts their pride.

Is their bravery still proven today?

The spirits of Ilidji or known as Lapu-Lapu is still running in the vein of every Tausug like his great-grandson Prof. Nur Misuari, Chairman of the Moro National Liberation Front. However, the bravery of the Tausug evolves to new trend. This time guns are no longer their weapons but pen and information technology.

At least there are less than 50 Tausug young intellectuals around the world who are blogging. Among them are Neldy Jolo, Aliasher Abdurajim, Asreemoro, Al-bangsamori, Warina Jukuy, Caliter, Alkhaulan Hashim, Yusop Masdal, Nur Danial and many more. Is this a new renaissance and the bloggers are the warriors?

Tausug bloggers are posting different issues such as Islam, Moro, Human Rights, Peace, Sulu Sultanate, Sulu, Leadership, Tausug culture and Recipes. At a glance, as if they are marching from different terrains and yet their direction is the same.

How brave they are! No fear if they are in the right position. They talk even with extreme bitterness. They serve as eye opener not only to foreign occupants (Filipinos) but also to their own people. This is the great Jihad – you can able to talk (the justice) in the front of tyrannical ruler, according to Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W.).

Some of are us not that very keen in writing nevertheless no one would like to do the job. This shows again a new kind of courage familiar to the valor of Tausug warriors who are using only "hinagud' (a weapon made of bamboo) against the high power machine gun. Nur Danial of Lugus Island, Sulu always mention that he can't accept himself as idle man if he knew that he can contribute a littlething to his fellowmen – to Tausugs and others.

Blogging about Sulu and Mindanao is a simple masterpiece as contribution to little development. In the end of the day you fell relaxed and contented. In other word, blogging is not only a kind of a venue to express the feelings but a new renaissance to end up with happiness for your self, to family and to society in general.

The effect of this new renaissance will be remembered forever. Maybe only few people could appreciate this work today, but in later years new generations would respect the credits. Nothing to be worried about credits! What is important the sincere efforts will be counted soon in the heavens, and if ever no virtues for it at least the jobs is done.

Blogging is fastest weapon to win the heart and mind of the people. Show your bravery! Let us post new topics and join the new club of Tausug Warriors – The "Tausug Bloggers".

"Blogging today, tomorrow a country".
