Will History Allow A Moro To Sit in Malacańang By 2010?

Will History Allow A Moro To Sit in Malacańang By 2010?
Could Atty Adel Tamano Be Our Next Obama?

I personally believe that an “impact” on non-Muslims and a “positive outcome in favor of Muslims-Moros” vis-à-vis discrimination against the latter (Muslims-Moros) -so to speak -will only be significant when the First Muslim-Moro Filipino State President would have been elected to office in Malacaňang. That’s a too-incredibly- high-stake, I know it sounds goofy! Or, the probability of electing at least 8 Muslim-Moro Senators out of 24 seats in 2010 to gain political leverage in changing national policies! I envision a political party that will be represented by Muslims-Moros exclusively from the presidency down without prejudice to the rights of non-Muslims- Moros. After all the political survival is all about supremacy of political party!

When we Muslims-Moros can relatively TRUST non-Muslims to rule us since 1898 under the so-called principles of democracy and justice aka democratic-republic an state of the 1935 constitution, why CAN"T the rest of the non-Muslim constituents TRUST a fellow Filipino (who just happened to be a Muslim-Moro by stroke of historical fate and Divine Destiny) to be their national leader? Unless, of course, the "concept of FILIPINO nationhood" has eternally remained a concept and never been a reality.

THAT (!) is the ultimate challenge that must be faced in order to reduce if not totally efface into oblivion existing bigotry, prejudices or discriminations against minorities that fall prey to compulsory marginalization.

You are most welcome. Thank you for asking. This comes as an opportunity to air out our personal sentiments on issues that directly or indirectly affect Muslim-Moro communities throughout the Philippine archipelago.

Excerpt From An E-Interview

Peace, mercy, and blessings of Almighty God be upon you, Mr. Sorza.

I graciously thank you for asking me these pertinent questions on Atty Adel Tamano's appointment as PLM President. Kindly read my corresponding reply below which is set in "red font."

Sallam!

I am sending this email as I'm doing a story on Atty. Adel Tamano's appointment as president of the City University of Manila.

Should it be fine with you to be quoted for the news story, here are the questions that we hope you could share thoughts on:

1. As a Moro, what's your reaction to the appointment of Atty Tamano, a Moro, as president of the PLM? Is it a pride to the Moros? Why/why not?
As a “Muslim,” my reaction to Adel’s appointment as PLM President is a gusty Masha’ALLAH! Allah has gifted Adel with a considerable degree of knowledge and wisdom. May Allah increase Adel’s knowledge and wisdom if it is best for him;and may Allah reward him with all that is best in this world and in the hereafter. Ameen…

My surprise and wonderment has no bearing on the appointment but on Allah's Infinite Grace. Frankly, this comes no longer as a “bolt from the blue” for me. I believe these types of questions should have been asked more than two years ago when “*Atty. Adel Tamano, the first Filipino Muslim at Harvard Law School , delivered his (Multiculturalism and Diversity) speech in June 2005 during the university’s commencement exercises. When he came back to the Philippines a day after, there was no mention in the media of a Filipino (Muslim/Moro) delivering the commencement speech in one of the world’s prestigious universities…”.(*July 9, 2007 | Posted by Karla Maquiling at Culture. PinoyCentric) Oh, btw, the underlined words enclosed in parentheses are mine.

Honestly, I cannot issue a general verdict here on behalf of “The Moros.” However, I must say that this appointment must be a “source of pride and HOPE to every Filipino’s integrity”, Muslims or non-Muslims alike because this serves as proof that Adel was indeed appointed based on MERIT and not on his creed, race or Way of life (ad-Deen: Islam) as a Muslim, much less not on his “ethnolinguistic identity” as a Moro.

Well, mabruk Adel! Another “first” for you, the First Moro-Muslim PLM President!
With all due respect and begging for your indulgence, Mr. Sorza, my preceding reply would have substantially as well as sufficiently answered your succeeding questions below. Notwithstanding, find more answers below, please.

2. Do you think his being appointed would have an impact on non-Muslims vis-a-vis the discrimination against Moros? Would it bring about a bit of positive outcome in favor of the Moros?

I personally believe that an “impact” on non-Muslims and a “positive outcome in favor of Muslims-Moros” vis-à-vis discrimination against the latter (Muslims-Moros) -so to speak -will only be significant when the First Muslim-Moro Filipino State President would have been elected to office in Malacaňang.
